    1. This introduction to continents and countries begins with an orientation session to the concept of a globe, a map, and land characteristics, which is a transition for how to recognize boundaries and landforms on a map. The United States is featured first, then the seven continents. Each oversized two-page spread is peppered DK-style with a mix of images that connote the location, such as bananas, carnival, cowboys and rainforests to represent South America, and rice, bamboo and pandas representi [...]

    2. This atlas is a phenomenal resource for young ones. I used it in one of our StoryTime Thursday activities to introduce our kids (ages 2 to 5) to the notion that the world is bigger than what they see from the car window on the way to the library. A few of them "got it," and seeing their faces light up was really wonderful. A few did not "get it," but that's okay since we had a rather diverse age range there. The atlas has a great spread of information, from the general shape of the world to what [...]

    3. Our World is a very basic introduction to maps--what they look like and what they represent. Colorful oversize pages explain elementary features of maps and allow one spread per continent to mention common languages, geographical landmarks and industry or customs (limited to 4 or 5 per contintent). There is a glossary, but the lack of a reference grid and an index combined with the sparse information limits use of this resource to grades K-2.

    4. This book is a wonderful resource for any project or unit discussing another place. We used just the pages about Asia for this Unit. Our children enjoy finding the landmarks and important information on the map. The additional information provided is brief, interesting to children, and supported with beautiful photographs.

    5. The kids really enjoyed this book. This is a book that I will check out FREQUENTLY. They LOVE to learn about the world and where we live at in the world. :)
