I get a little nervous when a tried, true, and trusted author writes in a new genre, but I had no need to worry here! One of my favorite authors is here, trying something a little different than her usual fare. Julie Coulter Bellon is queen of romantic suspense, usually military style. I love her books! Love's Broken Road is a character-driven book and focuses on their way of processing the trials in their lives. I appreciated that examples of healthy coping strategies were used by Victoria and that receiving assistance from a therapist was portrayed in a positive light. Wow, I loved everything about this book from the very start! I loved Tori, she's vulnerable, but at the same time super protective of her young son Caldwell. I loved the parts of the book that talk about their relationship, so sweet. This book was hard to put down. The theme of abuse and bullying is woven throughout the story. Heroine Victoria has just moved out west with her son to start a new life after enduring an abusive marriage for six years. I've read quite of few of Julie Bellon's suspense novels and was excited for the opportunity to read her latest novel, Love's Broken Road, even though it is a different genre.Bellon did a good job writing believable situations and likable characters. I loved this book! Some of my favorite stories to read are the not so fairy tale type. I love when an author writes about real life issues like death, abuse and anxiety. This book was a nice change for Julie I know she doesn't write this type very often and I am glad she went with her gut and her story and wrote it! This was my first book by this author, and I may check out some of her suspense writing, because she is a decent writer. Her characters are pretty fleshed out, and the story felt pretty realistic. I didn't enjoy the book as much as one I usually give four stars to, but I gave her an extra star because she did a few things I liked that played with the genre a little. Julie Bellon has always been one of my favorite authors. I've been looking forward to reading this one as it is a different genre for her. Julie hit a home run! I loved the characters, Drew was amazing, and Tori was too! I loved how their story developed!! I'll be reading this one again!

Loved this story of Victoria and her son Caldwell as they end a life of abuse and move cross country to start over. This story kept my attention from beginning to end. I also loved Drew and how kind and good he is. He adds humor and fun to the book. You should definitely read this book. It is great!!

This novel will tug at your heart. It has beautifully written characters and a romance that develops amidst trials. As a teacher, I was a little distracted by the unprofessional/drama at the school, but it did make for a fun background.

GoodI enjoyed this book. The characters were well written and I liked seeing Tori overcome the abuse she'd experienced .

Deceased husband now gave Victoria, and her son a new beginning. New town, new job as a math teacher, and even a nick name now.

This book was well written. It was just so sad.

Quick read -- young widow of an abusive husband and widower who didn't think he could everlove another woman. Squeaky clean romance.
