    1. This tale immediately reminded me of others of its ilk, such as “Snow White”, “Sleeping Beauty”, “East of the Sun and West of the Moon” and “The Enchanted Pig”. In this story, as in the latter two stated here, there is a gender switch; the damsel in distress is actually a man, a sleeping prince enchanted by a wicked magician. While the illustrations are expressive and realistic, featuring a determined, brave and selfless princess and the kindly old women she meets (this story is h [...]

    2. This book: A bit of a treasure.Almost a reverse sleeping beauty, with great scenes, fairy-tale characters, and a fantastic journey. Many picture books can't compare with this plot or the fine artist, and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to bring home something wonderful and extraordinary for little girls. I looked for this book for what felt like AGES over the internet, trying to type in key words from my memory and not ever knowing the title or the author. I remembered the illustrations [...]

    3. I received this for my 60th birthday from a friend, along with a wonderful pair of "iron shoes" that I keep propped up by the book.

She must travel far…farther…. farthest away from her home to reach the sleeping prince. She will know she is there when she wears out a pair of Iron Shoes specially made for the journey. With the help of the East Wind, the West Wind and the North Wind she is sure to make it to the prince in time to save time. Reminiscent of Snow White and Sleeping Beauty this beautifully Illust [...]

    5. InPrincess Florecita and the Iron ShoesJohn Warren Stewig, with illustrations by K. Wendy Popp, retells the Spanish story "El rey durmiente en su lecho." I love the strong and determined heroine, Florecita. The illustrations capture the mystery and fairy tale nature of her story.

    6. A great book for little girls. The illustrations are gorgeous. The story is an adventure tale of a young woman going off to rescue the prince. Wouldn't it be nice if Disney made this into a movie.
